Portée et contenu
The records represent aspects from the personal and professional lives of Michael A. Gorman, managing editor of the Flint Journal from 1928 to 1958. Documents include personal and professional correspondence, though more of the former than the latter. The correspondence is sometimes arranged chronologically and other times not. Other records include a multitude of holiday cards received by or sent by Gorman. Two diaries are present, though one has only a handful of dates for 1938. The other is entirely undated. Numerous theatre programs are included.
Mode de classement
Past practices described the contents of this collection individually. Each item received an object ID number and was treated as a distinct artifact. Records have been reunited, but their original order may have been lost.

Accès physique
The collection is housed in twenty legal-length full Hollinger boxes. Photographs were separated decades prior and placed in folders that were placed in the photographic cabinets. It is believed the photographs have been scattered among the cabinets in various folders.
Correspondence is largely in good condition with yellowing on some letters and ink slightly faded on others. Theatre programs have yellowed to various extents. There is fraying along the edges of some. The same can be applied to the holiday cards. Some records, such as telegrams, are brittle to the touch and must be handled with care.
All records, excepting holiday cards housed in plastic bags, have been placed into folders. Some of these folders are known to be acid-free. The status of the others is unknown for certain.
