Content and structure elements
Bereik en inhoud
The collection is composed solely of a single handbill which announces the first train for what was then the new Flint Belt Line. The train was scheduled to leave on Monday, June 4, 1923 from Pere Marquette Station.
The bill also announces several festivities in connection, such as the last spike being driven where Davison Road crossed the Belt Line, a free ride on the train, bands playing, and movies being taken. A dinner was announced for subscribers to the Belt Line fund at Hotel Durant.
Paul Purdy signed his name at the date at the bottom of the bill.
Ordeningstelsel
Past practices described the contents of this collection individually. Each item received an object ID number and was treated as a distinct artifact. Records have been reunited, but their original order may have been lost.
Conditions of access and use elements
Voorwaarden voor raadpleging
No restrictions. Contact the Collections Department and the Archivist to arrange use for research at collections@sloanlongway.org or (810) 237-3421.
Physical access
The handbill is housed inside an acid-free folder. The folder resides with those of other collections inside a legal-length Hollinger box. The handbill is paper. It is a dull shade of orange or pink. Typeface is printed in black, often boldened. Purdy signed his name and date at the bottom in cursive and black ink.
The condition of the handbill is fair. While the paper retains considerable flexibility and the printing shows few signs of fading it is nearly one hundred years old and was printed on cheaper paper.
