Content and structure elements
Scope and content
Two scrapbooks compose the collection. Both reflect the activities of the Flint Junior Woman’s Club from the early to mid-1970s. These activities included meetings, philanthropic ventures, sales, raffles, and gardening among others.
Records contained in both scrapbooks reflect these activities. They were recorded or commemorated in photographs, minutes, newsletters, memorials, programs, and flyers.
System of arrangement
Past practices described the contents of this collection individually. Each item received an object ID number and was treated as a distinct artifact. Records have been reunited, but their original order may have been lost.
Conditions of access and use elements
Conditions governing access
No restrictions. Contact the Collections Department and the Archivist to arrange use for research at collections@sloanlongway.org or (810) 237-3421.
Physical access
Both scrapbooks have brown leather covers. “Flint Jr. Women’s Club” is printed on the front covers of both in gold-colored lettering. The records detailed under Scope and Content are glued to the pages. Paper composes the media of the collection.
The general condition of the scrapbooks is poor. Front covers for both are detached. Several pages for the second scrapbook are also detached. Small creases and tears mark the edges of pages from the first. Larger ones mark the edges of pages from the second. All pages on both have yellowed. The yellowing is more extensive where glue was applied. Most contents remain glued to their pages but some have become detached.
